President's Message

Mona Choy Headshot.jpg

Aloha,

It is my honor and privilege to serve as the president of the United Chinese Society of Hawaii on the 140th anniversary since its founding. I would like to wish everyone good health and prosperity in the year of the Dragon. Since its establishment in 1884, the United Chinese Society of Hawaii has upheld the mission of perpetuating our rich Chinese culture and history for the future generation of Chinese in Hawaii and overseas. To this end, we continue to provide services to our member societies and organizations.

I am excited and humbled to serve as your President in this auspicious year of the Wood Dragon, the most magnificent & mythical creature of all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. According to Chinese astrology, the Wood Dragon symbolizes loyalty, reliability, and revolutionary ideas. Like the dragon’s inventive mind, we will be rolling out innovative ideas, events, workshops and programs for our member societies, organization, and clubs. This is a year to redouble our efforts and reconnect with all of you, and in service of that end we will have in-person activities both at our UCS hall and off-site locations. I encourage you to join us for all we have planned!

In addition to the annual Family Day Picnic, and the Installation/Hall of Honor banquet, UCS is planning to add some exciting events this year for more opportunities to connect with community.  The new events and programs include a Chinese New Year open house, health fair, educational workshops, social gatherings, a new NextGen leadership and mentoring program and more.

I welcome you to join UCS in its mission of perpetuating our Chinese heritage and providing cultural awareness in our community. I will do my absolute best to carry out that mission and honor the efforts of those who have served with their whole heart and soul before me.  Please contact our office via email if you need any assistance or have an inquiry.

Xie Xie and Mahalo Nui Loa!

Mona Choy
