Mask Donations to Support Member Societies
On May 31, 2020, United Chinese Society of Hawaii trustees handed out close to 5,000 masks to its member societies and organizations. Zhongshan Overseas China Commercial Association contacted United Chinese Society’s Immediate Past President, Henry Ou, sharing its generous offer to donate masks to our member societies and organizations to use for society business or events. UCS is grateful for the opportunity to support its member societies and organizations during these uncertain times. Please continue to stay safe and healthy!
Supporting Hawaii's Frontline!
Originally, the United Chinese Society of Hawaii embarked on a fundraiser to help its sister cities asking for assistance in China as COVID-19 rapidly spread. As China started to climb out of the pandemic, COVID-19 made its presence in the United States where it became evident that there was more of a need locally.
The original intent was to donate PPEs, but due to various quality issues and medical center standards, we did not feel comfortable purchasing just any product. With its trustees, member societies, and members, UCS decided to make a monetary contribution to each of the three hospitals that serve our Chinatown community: Queens Medical Center, Kuakini Medical Center, and Straub Medical Center. UCS President Teddy Chong and President Elect Leonard Kam made the presentations on April 30, 2020.
Along with the monetary donations, dim sum lunch boxes from Sing Cheong Yuan were delivered to each of the facilities on May 1, 2020. This allowed UCS to also support a Chinatown vendor! The monetary contributions and meal donations were met with great appreciation and gratitude!
